Joi AI Review 2026: Is It Safe? Pricing & Alternatives

Short answer: Joi AI (joi.com) is an adults-only AI companion platform run by Novi Limited, a registered company in Cyprus. You chat with ready-made, community-made or official "AI twin" characters, ask for photos and generate images and videos. The free Basic plan lets you look around; Premium is a subscription, and romantic messages, photo views and video views cost Neurons on top, so your real cost depends on how much you unlock. It shows the signs of a legitimate business (published terms, third-party age checks, no breach listed on Have I Been Pwned), but it is blocked in the UK and its prices only appear at checkout. What is Joi AI?

Joi AI sells itself as the place to build "AI-lationships": love, sex and romance without dating apps, through chat, photos and video. The library is split into women, men and anime, and you can filter by Joi Originals, community-made characters and celebrities. The celebrity side is the unusual part: "official AI twins" of real creators and performers. Under Joi's terms, only verified creators may upload content to build characters, under an agreement covering the use of their likeness.

Joi's terms say you can talk to a character by text and voice, and through a Video Call Feature where available; that feature may need camera and microphone access, and availability varies by device, region and plan. Beyond chat there is an image generator (up to 12 images per run, with styles, poses and negative prompts), a video generator, a community gallery and a Discord for prompts and Neuron giveaways.

Joi AI pricing (as of November 2026)

Joi's pricing has three layers, and the second one is the one to understand before you subscribe:

• Premium: a recurring subscription billed monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Monthly benefits reset every month even on a yearly plan, and unused benefits roll over to the next month.
• Neurons: a separate currency for what the subscription does not cover. Per Joi's terms, reading one romantic message costs 4 Neurons, one photo view up to 120 and one video view up to 1,900, depending on the theme. Virtual gifts, images or videos of a specific character and some advanced generation settings also cost Neurons, and bigger Neuron packs have a better per-unit rate.
• Bot Subscriptions: optional add-ons for certain individual characters. They only work while Premium is active; if Premium lapses, access is paused, and the terms say that does not entitle you to a refund.

Joi does not print plan prices on its public pages. They appear in the checkout after you sign up, and its terms say Premium, Bot Subscription and Neuron prices vary by region, plan length, character and promotions. Check current prices in your account and estimate what your usual messages and photos would cost in Neurons. For comparison, OurDream AI lists $19.99 a month (see our OurDream AI review), and Xeve.ai's membership is $12.99 a month, or about $7.09 a month on the yearly plan.

Is Joi AI free?

Partly. The free Basic plan gives limited access, and Joi reserves the right to deny free use. Free accounts get 6 lifetime image generations, stored for 7 days. Images or videos of a specific character cost Neurons rather than free generations, and free Neurons come from events and challenges on Joi's Discord.

Content and NSFW policy

Joi is explicit by design: adult chat with realistic or anime characters, photo requests and adult image and video generation, behind an 18+ gate and a mature-content setting. The limits are enforced by automated checks: every message runs through a safety filter, and image and video prompts are checked before anything is generated. Joi's terms set zero tolerance for trafficking and for non-consensual intimate imagery of real people, including deepfakes. Its help center is candid that the filter flags harmless messages "more often than we'd like".

Is Joi AI safe and legit?

Going by its public paperwork, Joi looks like a legitimate business. Here is what the documents show:

• A named company: Novi Limited signs the terms and is the data controller in the privacy policy, which names a Data Protection Officer; its 18 U.S.C. 2257 statement lists a custodian of records in Nicosia.
• Third-party age checks: verification runs through VerifyMyAge, by a background email check, facial age estimation or a government ID, depending on your region, and Joi says it does not store copies of your ID. In the UK, Joi says access is unavailable until its age verification complies with UK law.
• Privacy promises: the privacy policy says Joi neither sells nor rents your data and shares chats only with affiliated companies, legal representatives and service providers. You can delete your data by deleting your profile or asking support.
• No known breach: Have I Been Pwned, the public breach index, listed no Joi breach on November 1, 2026 (it does list the 2024 Muah AI breach).
• Safety work: Joi says it red-teams its systems twice a year with an independent partner and has a human ethics team review media published to its gallery.

Three points to weigh. Refunds are narrow: subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated, and the exceptions cover proven card fraud, one accidental Neuron purchase (full refund if unused, partial if partly used) and subscriptions Joi ends for reasons other than a rule break, with requests due within 14 days. The refund policy also warns that if you file a chargeback, Joi may disclose your private communications to prove the charge was valid. And the terms say Joi's representatives may in some cases moderate the chatbot's activity, so don't treat your chats as something no person can ever see. Joi AI vs Candy AI

These two are close: both are adult companion platforms with ready-made and custom characters, realistic and anime styles, photos in chat and image and video generators. The differences are in the extras and the billing. Candy AI advertises voice conversations and a Shorts section of ready-made short series, and bills a subscription with 100 tokens a month for media. Joi's draw is its creator twins and community library, and its Neurons also meter romantic messages and photo or video views. Joi AI is worth a look if you want explicit chat with a large library, official twins of creators you already follow and an image generator with real controls, and you don't mind paying per unlock. Skip it if you want a predictable monthly bill, prices you can see before signing up, or access from the UK.
